Meet our Doctors:
Thomas Zehnder, DVM - Hospital Director
Dr. Thomas Zehnder received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of California at Davis in 1979. After two years of dairy and small animal practice on the north coast of California, Dr. Zehnder returned to his hometown of Elk Grove. In 1984, Dr. Zehnder took over ownership and management of Bradshaw Veterinary Clinic along with Dr. Michael Johnson. With their combined 60 years experience in the profession, they have designed and developed the Franklin Ranch Pet Hospital to be one of the most advanced in the industry.
Dr. Zehnder is married with 4 children. His outside interests include golf, tennis, waterskiing, snow skiing, and horseback riding. His goal is to offer the Elk Grove/Laguna area unsurpassed service and comfort for their pets.
Richard Strasser, DVM - Hospital Administrator
Dr. Richard Strasser was born in Anchorage, Alaska. His early years were spent in Manassas, Virginia and Bellevue, Washington, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Washington in 1990. He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving as a rifleman and squad leader with 3rd Bn., 9th Marines. After fulfilling his obligations to the Marines, he returned to school and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of California at Davis in 2002.
He is interested in all aspects of veterinary medicine, including preventive medicine, dermatology, dentistry, internal medicine, and surgery. His goal is to provide you, the pet owner, with as much information as he can, to enable you to make the best decisions for the well-being and care of your pets.
Betsy Schroeder, DVM - Associate
Growing up in the rural town of Sebastopol, California and being involved with animal projects through the local 4-H Club helped motivate Dr. Schroeder into the veterinary profession. She studied at the University of California at Santa Barbara and the University of California at Davis for her undergraduate studies, and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of California at Davis in 1996. She currently resides in Lodi, CA with her husband and young daughter.
Dr. Schroeder's professional interests include challenging internal medicine cases, geriatric care, preventative dental health, and ultrasound. She enjoys getting to know her clients on a personal level and believes in offering the highest level of medical care available for their pets. Beyond work, she enjoys playing with her daughter and likes to run, swim, attempt gourmet cooking, host wine-tasting parties, and spend time outside making the home garden look good.
Arlene McKinstry, DVM - Associate
Dr. Arlene McKinstry received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University in 1994. She did her undergraduate studies in Animal Science at the University of Puerto Rico. Her family includes her husband, children, dogs, frogs, assorted fish and a tortoise.
Dr. McKinstry‘s professional goal is to offer the Sacramento and Elk Grove region unsurpassed veterinary care for small and companion animals. Her experience and interests include internal medicine, geriatric care for older pets, surgery and preventive medicine. Outside of work she enjoys spending time camping with family and friends, reading, knitting and scrapbooking.
